How trade sanctions are enforced by the Office of Trade Sanctions Implementation (OTSI).

On 12th September 2024, the Department for Business and Trade and the Office of Trade Sanctions Implementation (OTSI) released guidance on the enforcement of trade sanctions. OTSI will begin enforcing sanctions under The Trade, Aircraft and Shipping Sanctions (Civil Enforcement) Regulations 2024, starting 10th October 2024.

UK businesses must comply with the new legislation from this date. OTSI can investigate breaches involving sanctioned services, goods, and technology, including circumvention, exceptions, recordkeeping, and reporting obligations. This guidance does not constitute legal advice, and businesses are advised to seek independent legal consultation if unsure about their compliance requirements.
